On the day of Satyanarayan Puja devotees have fast until the puja is completed. The aspiration of dispossessing oneself from food is to assure that no evil thoughts or desires come to mind during, before or after the Satyanarayan puja.
After the puja is completed, devotees can get the blessings of Lord Satyanarayan and fulfill their fast by consuming prasadam. The devotees believed that following Satyanarayana Puja at home or temples will bring more effective results to their life.
The performers are blessed with a happy and prosperous life. Most of the Hindu families perform the puja for the fulfillment of desires. It is performed either before or after the fulfillment of the desire.
Usually, most of the Devotees and Hindu families followed Satyanarayan puja every year for their well-being health and wealth of the family. Some believed that its mandatory to conduct in newly married Hindu bride and groom.
A detailed version of performing the pooja is mentioned in Reva Kanda of Skanda Puranam. The last part of the Satyanarayan Puja story is read by devotees at the end of the ritual and it’s very important which is about the King who refuses to take prasad of Satyanarayana Vratam and how he suffers because of that behavior.
This story insists that how important to follow Satyanarayana vratam is equally important to have prasad. If the devotees forget to offer the prasadam, don’t hesitate to avail the prasadam as it is marked as the fulfillment or proper completion of Vratam.
