About Lord Vishnu – भगवान विष्णु कौन है

Lord Vishnu is represented as the supreme being in Vaishnavism. Vishnu is the giver and provider of everything in the Hindu trinity that includes Brahma and Shiva. He is the preserver and upholder of Hindu Dharma.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is considered as a God of the world. Lord Vishnu has two faces. First, where he is shown as quiet, pleasant, and gentle. The second one is dangerous, where he is shown in the posture of Kalswarup Sheshnag, the king of snakes.

He has four arms, which indicate his all-powerful and all-pervasive nature. The Two arms are in front and the other two are at the back, which represents his presence in the spiritual world.

Lord Vishnu wears Kastubha gem which rests on his left chest, the garland of flowers called Vaijayanti and Lakshmi dwells in the jewel on his chest. There is a crown on his head which has peacock feather, borrowed from his Krishna Avatar.

The earrings in his ears represent inherent opposites in creation like pleasure and pain, knowledge and ignorance, happiness, and sadness. He holds a conch shell or shankha called Panchajanya in the upper left hand. The Panchajanya represents the power of Lord Vishnu, who can create and maintain the universe. Panchajanya is a form of five Pancha Bhoota that is water, earth, fire, sky, and air. The Panchajanya also represents five Pranas inside the human mind and body.

Lord Vishnu, with his wife Goddess Lakshmi, resides on a bed made of coils of thousands of giant hooded snakes in the milky waters of Vaikunth. He is usually in standing or resting posture. The ocean stands for consciousness and bliss, the snake for time, diversity, desire and illusion, and Goddess Lakshmi for the material things and power of creation.

Color of Lord Vishnu

The color of the Lord Vishnu is dark blue (same as the color of the sky) which denotes his cosmic dimensions and connections to Vedic Gods like thunder, rain, and the relationship with the earth. According to the Hindu scriptures, water was born from the feet of Lord Vishnu. The river Ganges also called Vishnupadodki has come from the feet of God. The water is known as Nar or Neer, and even Lord Vishnu stays in the water. From there, the name Narayan formed; the God who lives inside water.

Lord Vishnu’s first and foremost devotee is Narad, who only chants Narayan-Narayan due to which Lord Vishnu was being called as Narayan like Satyanarayan, Lakshminarayan, Dhruv Narayan, Ananthanarayan, and Sheshnarayan. Lord Vishnu is also known as Hari, which means one who can remove sin and problems from other’s life.

Incarnations of Lord Vishnu

Lord Vishnu has incarnated in human form on the earth to restore Dharma and goodness in society by destroying the evil. All incarnations (Avatars) of God are associated with Lord Vishnu.

The Important Incarnations of Lord Vishnu are Matsya (Fish Avatar), Kurma (Koorma Avatar), Varaha (Boar Avatar), Narsingha (Lion Avatar), Vamana (Dwarf Avatar), Parasurama Avatar, Ram Avatar, Krishna Avatar, Buddha Avatar, and Kalki Avatar.
